The Lotus Esprit<\/em><\/strong> was a sports car built by Lotus<\/strong> from 1976 to 2004. The Silver Italdesign concept that eventually became the Esprit<\/em> was unveiled at the Turin motor show in 1972, and was a development of a stretched Lotus<\/strong> Europa chassis. It is held to be among the first of designer Giorgetto Giugiaro’s <\/em>“folded paper” designs. Originally, the name Kiwi<\/strong> was proposed, but in keeping with the E naming formatof Lotus<\/strong> tradition, the name was changed to Esprit<\/em>.<\/p>\n

In 1980 the first factory turbocharged<\/em> Lotus<\/strong>, the Essex Esprit<\/em> was built, and these special editions were superseded by a production turbo car. The new turbocharged<\/em> engine was known as the 910 type, and produced 210<\/strong> horsepower, with an impressive 200 lb ft. of torque. 0-60 mph could be achieved in the low 5 second range, with a top speed of over 150 mph.<\/p>\n

In 1993, another exterior and interior revamp of the car resulted in the S4<\/strong> which was the first model to include power steering<\/em>. The exterior redesign was done by Julian Thompson<\/strong>, which included a smaller rear spoiler placed halfway up the rear decklid. Other major changes were to the front and rear bumpers, side skirts and valence panels. New five spoke alloy wheels were also included in the redesign. The S4 <\/strong>retained the same horsepower as the SE at 264 hp<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nThe engine is a Turbocharged 2.2-litre<\/strong> 16-valve twin overhead camshaft unit producing 264 hp @ 6,500rpm and 260ft\/lbs torque at 3900rpm. Top speed was rated at 165+ mph with a 0-60 in 4.7 seconds. The exterior is finished in Classic British Racing Green with all the correct decals. The Interior is done in a classic tan leather showing small signs of wear. Overall this is a great example of a classic mid 90’s Supercar<\/strong>. A great investment value, car runs and drives extremely well.<\/p>\n
