The Chevrolet Corvette<\/em><\/strong><\/em> first appeared in 1953<\/em> as a unique American entry into the sports\u00a0car market dominated by European makes. Although not a muscle car by definition, the Corvette <\/strong>used muscle car powertrains and has represented American<\/strong> performance for almost fifty years.<\/p>\n

The Corvette<\/strong> celebrated its 25th Anniversary in 1978, and all Corvettes<\/strong> received special\u00a0commemorative emblems. All 1978 Corvettes<\/strong> received a new fastback roofline with a large,\u00a0wraparound backlight.<\/p>\n

In 1978 the big news for enthusiasts was the addition of two limited edition versions of the Corvette.\u00a0The first was the Anniversary edition ordered with the “25th Anniversary Paint”<\/strong> B2Z option.\u00a0The second limited edition Corvette<\/strong> was the Pace Car Replica model, which commemorated the Corvettes\u00a0which paced the 62nd Indy 500<\/em>. The Pace Car Replica was decked out with a black upper body and\u00a0silver-metallic lower body, plus the alloy wheels and fat Goodyear tires worn by the Silver\u00a0Anniversary model. The Pace Car Replica also carried front and rear spoilers and the identifying\u00a0“Pace Car”<\/strong> decals.<\/p>\n

Only 6,502 1978 Pace Car Editions<\/strong> were built. The car was also the 25th Anniversary edition<\/strong> of the\u00a0Corvette. The ’78 Corvette Pace Car<\/em> edition featured two-tone black\/silver paint, alloy wheels,\u00a0and a silver leather interior. 1978 marked the first restyling for the Corvette since the 1968 model.<\/p>\n
