Although not a muscle car by definition, the <strong>Corvette <\/strong>used muscle car powertrains and has represented American performance for almost fifty years.<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Sting Rays<\/em> were the automotive success story of the year. <strong>Chevrolet<\/strong> had to add\u00a0a second shift to its <em>St. Louis, Missouri<\/em> assembly plant to keep up with demand, and\u00a0dealers reported owners waiting months for their cars to be built. By the end of the\u00a0model year, Corvette production would surpass the <em>20,000-unit<\/em> milestone.<\/p>\n<p>The all new <em>1968 <strong>Corvette<\/strong><\/em> was a dramatic change in appearance from previous <strong>Corvettes<\/strong>. The all new\u00a0styling bore a striking resemblence to <em>Chevrolet&#8217;s <strong>Mako Shark<\/strong> II<\/em> concept car and was a bold look.\u00a0The new <strong>Corvette<\/strong> also introduced hidden windshield wipers and removable T-tops on Coupe models. A new\u00a0three speed automatic transmission replaced the previous two-speed unit.<\/p>\n<p>Up for auction is this Third Generation <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">1968 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible<\/span><\/em>. This was <strong>Corvette&#8217;s<\/strong> first major\u00a0restyling since 1963. This &#8217;68 comes equipped with a <em>327-cid 350-hp V-8<\/em>, Holley intake, Edelbrock carburetor,\u00a0Edelbrock valve covers and performance ignition wires\/coil. The transmission is the factory optional\u00a0four-speed manual. On the exterior the body has been stripped and professionally painted in a stunning\u00a0<strong>Chameleon<\/strong> paint. The interior is the standard black with new leather, new white soft top and rally sport\u00a0wheels with new Good Year Eagles. Runs and drives extremely well.
