In the early 1960s\u00a0Harley Earl<\/strong> retired, and new ideas came with new\u00a0leadership. Bill Mitchell, GM’s new chief of design, had an incredibly successful\u00a0idea: Stingray! Tradition was broken as the totally redesigned Corvette was\u00a0offered as a coupe or a convertible with 4 engine choices. Both featured a\u00a0streamlined appearance and improved passenger accommodations. The American\u00a0public loved\u00a01963-1967 Stingrays<\/em> because they were fast machines that\u00a0looked\u00a0supersonic<\/em> even when parked. They remain the most collectible\u00a0Corvettes today.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Sting Rays<\/em> were the automotive success story of the year. Chevrolet had to add\u00a0a second shift to its St. Louis, Missouri assembly plant to keep up with demand, and\u00a0dealers reported owners waiting months for their cars to be built. By the end of the\u00a0model year, Corvette production would surpass the 20,000-unit milestone.<\/p>\n

For 1966\u00a0Corvette<\/strong> made a few changes to the\u00a0Sting Rays<\/strong>. The 1966 Corvette featured a\u00a0new eggcrate grille and functional engine compartment cooling vents. In its place, a new muscle\u00a0Corvette was introduced, the\u00a0“427”<\/em> with its own funnel-shaped, power bulge on the hood.<\/p>\n

Up for auction is this\u00a01966 Corvette\u00a0Stingray<\/strong> Convertible<\/em>. Fitted to this car; a\u00a0L72<\/strong>
\n427 Turbo-Jet V8<\/em> 425\u00a0HP<\/strong> engine with a rare factory automatic transmission.\u00a0The exterior is\u00a0Nassau Blue<\/strong> with a\u00a0Black<\/em> vinyl interior, factory knock offs and side pipes.\u00a0This vehicle is also equipped with power assisted steering and AM\/FM Radio. Vehicle runs and drives\u00a0extremely well. This classic\u00a0American Convertible<\/em> is extremely solid and fun to drive. One of\u00a0the most collectable of all\u00a0Corvettes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
