{"id":5712,"date":"2010-11-19T15:33:36","date_gmt":"2010-11-19T15:33:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gentrylane.com\/s\/?p=5712"},"modified":"2010-11-19T15:33:36","modified_gmt":"2010-11-19T15:33:36","slug":"1965-corvette-sting-ray-convertible","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gentrylane.ca\/s\/domestic-inventory\/sold-domestic\/1965-corvette-sting-ray-convertible","title":{"rendered":"1965 Corvette  Sting Ray Convertible"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In the early 1960s\u00a0<strong>Harley Earl<\/strong> retired, and new ideas came with new leadership.\u00a0Bill Mitchell, GM&#8217;s new chief of design, had an incredibly successful idea: Stingray!\u00a0Tradition was broken as the totally redesigned Corvette was offered as a coupe or\u00a0a convertible with 4 engine choices. Both featured a streamlined appearance and\u00a0improved passenger accommodations. The American public loved\u00a0<em>1963-1967 Stingrays <\/em>because they were fast machines that looked\u00a0<em>supersonic<\/em> even when parked.\u00a0They remain the most collectible Corvettes today.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<em>Sting Rays<\/em> were the automotive success story of the year. Chevrolet had to add\u00a0a second shift to its St. Louis, Missouri assembly plant to keep up with demand, and\u00a0dealers reported owners waiting months for their cars to be built. By the end of the\u00a0model year, Corvette production would surpass the 20,000-unit milestone.<\/p>\n<p>For 1965\u00a0<strong>Corvette<\/strong> made a few changes to the\u00a0<strong>Sting Rays<\/strong>. The horizontal grill bars were changed\u00a0to black, the hood vent\u00a0<em>depressions<\/em> were removed and the new vertical\u00a0<em>exhaust louvers<\/em> in the\u00a0front fenders were now functional. On the interior\u00a0<em>Instrument gauges<\/em> were restyled with flat\u00a0black faces and seats were redesigned with slightly larger and more supportive cushioning.<\/p>\n<p>Up for auction is this gorgeous\u00a0<em>1965 Corvette\u00a0<strong>Stingray<\/strong> Roadster<\/em>. Fitted to this car; a\u00a0<em>327\/350<\/em> <strong>HP<\/strong> engine with factory\u00a0<strong>Side Pipes<\/strong> and a 4 speed manual transmission.\u00a0The exterior is\u00a0<strong>Glen Green<\/strong> with black vinyl interior and white soft top. This vehicle\u00a0has most of the factory correct components, some recent restorations and excellent powertrain.\u00a0This classic\u00a0<em>American Roadster<\/em> is extremely solid and fun to drive. This car would\u00a0be a great addition to any collection.
