When the MGA<\/strong> arrived in 1955, it must have come as quite a shock to MG\u00a0aficionados who had become used to the pre-war<\/em> look of the company’s sports\u00a0cars. Even the revamped TF left nothing to doubt about its 1930’s-style\u00a0design. The MGA<\/strong> was a complete departurein styling for MG.<\/em> It’s beautiful\u00a0streamlined body was right up to the minute in terms of appearance. On it’s\u00a0launch the car was extremely well received, which was no doubt helped by its\u00a0previous competition successes, and it’s impressive performance in standard\u00a0road-going form. It also offered very good value for money in the MG tradition\u00a0and it sold very well, with a large number going to the USA where it did much\u00a0to revive MG’s flagging reputation.<\/em><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

The two-seat<\/em> open body was unmistakably a development of the earlier Philips racer\u00a0design, being of the full width type, the wings blending into the bodywork and each\u00a0other to produce a beautiful<\/em> and aerodynamic<\/em> design. Other than a shortened,\u00a0stylised and widened version of the now familiar MG grille<\/strong>, there was very little\u00a0about the MGA<\/strong> which bore the slightest resemblance to any of its predecessors.\u00a0From the scuttle, the body fell in one constant curve to the radiator grille,\u00a0blending into the full swept front wings on each side. The line of the front wings\u00a0was taken back past the cockpit with its cutaway doors, to where it merged into the\u00a0rear wings. These tapered almost to a point at the rear and were blended into the\u00a0rear portion of the bodywork that curved down from the back edge of the cockpit.\u00a0This car drives wonderfully<\/em>. With a 1489 cc pushrod inline 4 cylinder water cooled\u00a0engine producing 68 bhp @ 5500 rpm it’s one quick little roadster.<\/p>\n

The Transmission\u00a0is a four speed manual, synchromesh on top three ratios, which has just been\u00a0fully rebuilt<\/em>. Front Suspension includes Independent coil<\/em> and wishbone\u00a0with lever arm shocks. Rear Suspension has live rear axle, half elliptic leaf springs\u00a0with lever arm shocks. The exterior is a gorgeous red with a beautiful black interior <\/strong>finished with red<\/strong> piping. Both the soft top and tonou cover are black <\/em>in colour. On the exterior this MGA is equiped with the optional Center-lock <\/em>wire wheels.<\/p>\n

This MGA is extremely solid and fun to drive as it a great investment.<\/em><\/p>\n
