The 1960<\/strong> model year was an impressive beginning to a new decade. During the Sixties<\/strong>, Cadillac <\/strong>styling became more graceful and restrained as Bill Mitchell<\/em> gradually unified the design. Few new engineering advances were introduced, but orderly design development and a conservative styling approach set Cadillac<\/strong> apart from other luxury makes and maintained its reputation as \u201cThe Standard of the World.\u201d<\/em> To the American public, Cadillac <\/strong>remained a symbol of prestige<\/em>, success<\/em>, and good taste<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The 1968<\/strong> spotlight was on motive power: an all-new 472-cid V-8 with 375 bhp<\/em>. Designed to meet the new government emission standards that took effect that year, it was extensively tested in the laboratory, being run the equivalent of 500,000 miles. Though not as fuel-efficient as its predecessor, the 472<\/strong> could boast of being the largest production engine offered in the industry.<\/p>\n
